credit card transactionWhen you use your credit card either in a store, on the phone or on the internet the retailers will put the information into a credit approval system. The credit card company will be contacted to check that your card is valid and that you have available credit on it to make the transaction. They will also check if there is any suspicious activity on your card. This is to protect you against any fraudulent use of your details. When there is a fraud warning on a card transaction then usually the customer will be asked to contact the credit card issuer to confirm if the suspicious transaction is valid or not.

If everything is ok with the credit card and the charge is under the limit then an approval code is sent through and the retailer runs through the transaction. A retailer will then submit their transactions to their bank to be collected for payment. In the meantime your credit card account will be debited for the amount that has been charged and then at the end of the month a statement issued to you.

For most people credit cards are an extremely useful addition to their wallets. For some it is the ability to make large purchases at short notice and for others it is for the convenience and ease of use. Whichever reason, credit cards are a hugely popular method of payment and will continue to be so for a long time.
